Medina County Fix-It Funds Home Improvement Loans

Low-Interest Improvement Loans;
2026 Program Details And Eligibility

Medina County Treasurer - Fix It Funds Program

MEDINA COUNTY, OHIO – Beginning May 1, 2026, Medina County Treasurer John Burke and First Financial will once again offer Fix-It Funds — low-interest, fixed-rate home improvement loans for Medina County homeowners.

Since 2015, the Treasurer’s office and its partners have offered these loans at rates up to 2% below the bank’s current rate. Fix-It Funds loans range from $5,000 to $50,000 and are available on a first-come, first-served basis until funds are depleted.

What Improvements Are Eligible For Loans

Almost all interior and exterior home improvements qualify for the program. This includes roofing, siding, windows, doors, driveways, and HVAC systems (furnaces/air conditioners), as well as remodeling, additions, painting, and flooring. Ineligible projects are limited to luxury items such as swimming pools, satellite dishes, or hot tubs. Please note that manufactured homes are not eligible for the program.

Qualifications and Requirements There is no income limit to qualify for Fix-It Funds. To be eligible, applicants must meet the following criteria:

  • Must be a Medina County resident.

  • The home (1-4 family unit dwelling) must have a tax-appraised value of $350,000 or less (excluding land), per the Medina County Auditor’s records.

  • No maximum limit on borrower’s income.
  • Real estate taxes must be current (not delinquent).

  • Homeowners have up to 18 months to complete the approved work.

“Over 80% of the homes in Medina County may qualify for this program,” Burke noted. “We currently have over $1 million in active Fix-It Funds loans, with an average loan value of $18,585.”

Fixed Interest Rate 2% Reduced

“While home equity line interest rates have leveled out at an average of 7-8% over the last two years, the Fix-It Funds program remains a highly attractive alternative,” said Treasurer Burke. “Our fixed interest rate, at up to 2% below the bank’s normal rate, provides significant savings for residents looking to maintain their property.”

Since its authorization in 2002, the program has provided over $16 million in low-interest loans to more than 1,000 residents. Distribution across the county includes:

  • Townships: $8.4 million

  • Medina: $3.1 million

  • Brunswick: $2.9 million

  • Wadsworth: $1.6 million

This unique program has received national recognition from IACREOT. Treasurer Burke has also assisted Stark and Portage counties in establishing similar linked-deposit programs; only three other Ohio counties offer comparable initiatives.
