Canning-Dean:
Hello, this is Emily Canning-Dean, and I am here with Brunswick City Schools Superintendent, Jason Niedermeyer. Mr. Niedermeyer, we would love to hear what you’re excited about with this new Brunswick High School campus and how you think this is going to benefit students and staff. What would you like to say about that?

Niedermeyer:
Thank you, Emily. I always start off with just a thank you. Thank you for working in such a supportive community, a well-informed community that, when they sense or recognize an opportunity, they take advantage of it, and this project is certainly an example of that. I am extremely excited for the space that we are building.

I think, we’re close to 200,000 bricks laid through through this week, which is exciting. The building is literally coming out of the ground. You know, our groundbreaking was not long ago, and the amount of progress that they’ve made is truly just unbelievable. We are approximately 750 days away from opening the doors to this new building and welcoming students into it.

The thing that I’m most excited about is when you look at the instructional spaces and you look at the flexibility that these spaces will offer our teachers. Couldn’t be more excited about that. We will have flexible furniture. We’ll have flexible arrangements. Right now teachers have to adapt their teaching style to the environment that they’re in. And I think what we’re excited about this new building – the environment is flexible to the teaching style. And that’s going to provide awesome learning opportunities for our students.

What else am I excited about? I can tell you the natural lighting in all of the classrooms, improvement in air quality and climate control, are certainly things we’re excited about.

The thing that nobody wants to think about is school security. I can tell you that’s the thing I’m most focused on. So, this new building will have state-of-the-art technology related to security for entry and entryways into the building. You know, our existing building has so many doors open to the outside. So, I can tell you this new building does not have that and we’re excited about that.

You know, we have multiple floors in our instructional wings, so that students don’t have to walk a quarter of a mile to get from their second period class to their third period class, which is obviously exciting for our students.

All of our classrooms will have technology enhancements that we’re excited about, audio systems, state-of-the-art instructional delivery, materials and devices.

So, those are just a few of the many things that we’re really, really excited about for this new building.

Canning-Dean:
Okay, well, thank you. I really appreciate you sharing that with us, Mr. Niedermeyer, and I think much of the community is excited to see this come to fruition.

Niedermeyer:
That’s awesome. We’re excited to have learning environments for our students that’s going to improve the education for generations and generations of students to come. So, thank you for the opportunity to speak to that.

Thank you.
