Applewood, Kidder Early On The Schools Schedule

BRUNSWICK – While the main high school building on the Center Road campus is expected to be complete and
operational by the beginning of the 2027-28 school year, some of the smaller structures are slated to be finished before the opening of the high school.
“Site improvements at both Applewood and Kidder Elementary schools, which is also part of this project, have already been completed,” Treasurer Mark Pepara said. “These were relatively small projects that we were able to complete quickly.”
Pepara said additions to each of these elementary buildings will make room for new classrooms. Both additions are scheduled to be completed before the 2026-27 school year.
Additions at Applewood will include:
- Four new classrooms, approximately 825 square feet each.
- A group restroom facility.
- An individual staff bathroom on the north end of the building.
Additions at Kidder will include:
- Two 1,200 square-foot pre-k classrooms.
- A 1,500 square-foot dedicated art room.
Maintenance, Board Of Education Building Details
Alex Grossman of Hammond Construction, the firm overseeing the project, said the new maintenance building is expected to be the first structure built on the Center Road campus with an estimated completion date of Oct. 29, 2025.
This building will include:
- A 10-bay garage that holds a wash bay and warehouse storage.
- A new shop area.
- Offices for maintenance staff.
“This project is currently in the stage of installing finishes including paint, lights and equipment installations,” Grossman said.
The new board of education building, which will replace the existing board offices attached to the current high school, is slated for completion in March of 2026. Grossman said interior walls to the building are currently being laid out and constructed.
New High School Slated For 2027-28 Year
Grossman said the new high school building is still on track to be ready for the 2027-28 school year and is currently in the structural phase.
“We have the majority of the foundations complete and are working on building masonry bearing walls,” he said. “At the same time, the underground electric and plumbing are being installed. As we progress into the second half of the year, we will start erecting steel and roofing to get enclosure through the winter for about half of the building.”
Once the new high school building is complete, demolition can begin on the existing high school. Contractors have said the parking lot to the north of the property can’t be constructed until the east wing of the existing high school is demolished.
Regarding the Brunswick Schools schedule, contractors hope to have asphalt down in the new parking lot by Thanksgiving of 2027.
New Brunswick Baseball Field, Tennis Courts
The final phase of the project will be the athletic fields on the back of the property including a full- sized baseball field.
An outdoor space with synthetic turf will provide opportunities for:
- Marching band practice.
- Physical education classes.
- Soccer practice.
- Lacrosse practice.
Pepara said the installation of six tennis courts will provide better opportunities for the boys and girls tennis teams.
“We have had tennis teams for many years, but we don’t have any tennis courts on our current campus,”
he said. “The teams have had to travel to city parks.”
The additional athletic improvements will provide a more cohesize campus environment.
Brunswick High School complex | $102 million in new civic investment

BRUNSWICK – While Brunswick City School district officials believe the new high school campus under construction on Center Road will benefit students and staff, they also view it as an investment the entire community can be proud of.
“This facility doesn’t just belong to the schools,” Board of Education President Mary Weinhauer said. “It belongs to the entire community.”
So far construction on this high school building, which is slated to be 302,000 square feet complete with a 1,000-seat auditorium and 2,000-seat competition gymnasium, is on schedule. The building is set to be open to students at the beginning of the 2027-28 school year.
